A veneer is a thin custom made covering which is bonded to the front surface of a tooth in order to mask discolouration, misalignment, or wear. It can be done on one or several front teeth in order to enhance the smile. Veneers can be made of composite resin or porcelain. Composite resin veneers are placed directly onto the tooth with minimal on no tooth structure being removed prior to placement and completed in one visit. Porcelain veneers are made in a dental laboratory and require two visits. They are stronger, more stain resistant and durable than composite veneers and have a more natural appearance.
